Meaghan Ross, Community Development Worker, Hamilton Housing Help Centre

Meaghan works at the Housing Help Centre in Hamilton as the Community Development Worker as part of the Tenant Outreach and Education Project. Her main work there centres on providing presentations to the community, and advocating for tenant rights and housing related issues. She is also there to resource tenants looking to organize or receive help maintaining their tenant association.

She recently completed a Masters of Arts in Globalization Studies from the Institute of Globalization and the Human Condition at McMaster University. Her studies were influenced by her previous participation in the Labour Studies and Social Work degree programs, also at McMaster. She has worked in mental health, case management, and research in both England and Canada. Meaghan aims to implement the lessons she learned about activism from these studies and experiences into both her paid and unpaid work.

Larry Huibers, Executive Director, Hamilton Housing Help Centre

Larry Huibers is currently the Executive Director of the Hamilton Housing Help Centre.He has 25 years experience in social justice issues and sees housing stability as a cornerstone for people to be active and engaged members of our community.Larry has a long history of community leadership and volunteer involvement in the community. He is currently the c Joey’s career has been dedicated to work in the area of social and health services, social research, policy analysis and community development both in Canada and internationally. She has a wealth of experience in a range of service, planning and advocacy organizations that include grass roots community organizations, agencies of the voluntary sector, universities, municipal government and the United Nations. She has written extensively on productive aging, issues of poverty and income equity, the social implications of the privatization of health and social services and the need for a strong and vibrant civic society.

Chair of the Niagara Resource Service for Youth – The RAFT, a youth shelter in Niagara,as well as a past chair and current board member of the Niagara Regional Science Fair andformer chair and former board member of the John Howard Society of Niagara.For six years Larry, his wife Ann and daughter Jenna acted as a host family for a young girl through the Children of Chernobyl Program.

Larry Huibers has an excellent track record of working collaboratively and effectively in a constantly changing community environment. He sees possibility in an environment that will allow us to nurture a better community and believes all people want our communities to the best place to grow.
